    Time Line:

  • 2011 - The house was constructed between April and August.
  • 2010 - Moved to the property, arriving September 2. Cutting of the brush for the driveway, power and building site started on the 28th of September. The driveway was finished (roughed in) on 24th of October.
  • 2009 - August, 3 week vacation on the property. Valeria was our first guest. She stayed for the first week, she helped with getting the water going and tripped around with us. The toilet had blown the bottom out during the winter so we had to use the outhouse while Valeria was with us, a first for her.
  • 2008 - Two pins were surveyed on the east side of the property.
  • 2008 - Trailer, power, well and septic put on property. July, 3 week vacation spent on the property with no septic, well or power for the first 2 weeks.
  • 2008 - All that certain lot, piece of parcel of land situate, lying and being at Half Way Cove, in the County of Guysborough and Province of Nova Scotia, bounded and described as follows:

    BOUNDED on the North by the Main Highway from Canso to Guysborough; On the East by lands formerly owned by David Snyder and owned by Bernard Snyder; On the South by the General Rear Line; and On the West by lands owned and occupied by Arthur Delaney. BEING the same lands conveyed by Maimie O. Dort to Hugh Seward Bond by Deed dated October 18, 1954 and recorded at the Registry of Deeds at Guysborough, N.S. in Book 56, Page 84. AND BEING the same lands conveyed to Loretta M. Hodge by Deed dated August 14, 1987, recorded in the Registry of Deeds, Guysborough, Nova Scotia, in Book 131, Page 709. AND consisting of One Hundred and Ninety-Nine (199) Acres. Subject to a utility interest as described in Book 68, Page 221.

    The description for this parcel originates with a deed dated October 18, 1954, registered in the registration district of Guysborough in book 56 at page 84 and the subdivision is validated by section 291 of the Municipal Government Act. (Current Parcel Description at Guysborough County Office).
  • 2007 - October, Property purchased from the Bank of Montreal on a Quit Deed by us for $42,000 plus tax.
  • 2006 - Registrant: Curry, Brian. (Sect 43 - Notice of Registration, Book 237 Page 452, Jul 19, 2006. Doc. 85664945).
  • 2006 - John MacKenzie and Verda MacKenzie each declared bankruptcy on May 26, 2005.
  • 2003 - Mortgage between John K. MacKenzie and Verda MacKenzie with the Bank of Montreal. Amount of $40,000 @ 7.25%. Paying 851.85 per month for 5 years starting on May 18, 2003. (Mortgage Book 218 Page 109 Mar. 21, 2003. Doc 254).
  • 2003 - Declares that he is not John MacKenzie of Canso referred to in a Judgment of Guysborough Regional Housing Authority on Sept. 18 1992. (Statutory Declaration, Book 218 Page 102, Mar 21, 2003. Doc 252).

  • 2002 - The owner of the property to the west had the boundary between the two properties surveyed back to Halfway Cove Brook. He took the west side of the logged area as the boundary line which resulted in the reduction of the estimated property size of 199 by 50-70 acres.
  • 1997 - Aerial photographs show that the property from the crest of the hill back to the south branch of Halfway Cove Brook had been logged in the proceeding year. The logged area is not contained entirely within this property, it is probable 100 feet to far to the east.
  • 1994 - Transfer Deed from Loretta M. Hodge (Grantor) and Richard Hodge (Husband) to John Kenneth MacKenzie (Grantee) for $1 and other good and valuable consideration.   • 1946 - Bequeathed to Maimie O. Dort land valued at $500 (max. for no taxes) without any description other then at Half Way Cove. (Will of David Alexander Dort of 29th June).
  • 1621 - Sir William Alexander, latter known as Earl of Sterling, is Granted Nova Scotia, Canada On September 10 1621 , King James signed a land grant to his old friend, and his partner on the Psalms project, Sir William Alexander. This was for an area larger than Great Britain and France combined, "between our Colonies of New England and Newfoundland, to be known as New Scotland". In Latin the name of this land was Nova Scotia.
